The Story of Goliath and Bebe
Goliath was a Great Dane who had known only suffering in his five years on earth. When he came into the life of Nedra Wooley (President and Founder), he was not only reed thin with his bones clearly visible and weak from persistent ill treatment, but starved and dehydrated from being chained under the Florida sun with no food or water. Nevertheless, Goliath remained trusting and seemed grateful when Nedra took him to the School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Florida in Gainesville for care. Nedra says that it seemed, at the time, that Goliath knew that she was saving his life. Unfortunately, good care and love were not sufficient to counter the ill treatment he had received, and Goliath suffered kidney failure within eight months. However, during those eight months, this trusting, noble animal learned that life was not entirely comprised of pain and suffering.
A short time later, Nedra gave meticulous and compassionate care to a two pound-8 ounce kitten that never grew, that she called Bebe. Nedra had to massage Bebe's side three times a day in order to prompt the little cat to eat. Because both Goliath and Bebe received the "royal" treatment while under Nedra's care, she considered her home "their world".
As with Goliath, Bebe lived only a short time... just 18 months, but these experiences were enough to motivate Nedra to dedicate her life to animal rescue and to provide a compassionate, humane home for animals considered unadoptable. Rather than euthanizing such animals, Goliath
& BeBe's World provides a comfortable, nurturing environment for these creatures, which have so often known only pain and suffering. At the G&B sanctuary, the so-called unadoptable animals not only have care, but also acres of land to run and play with the other animals.
Founded in 2001 by Nedra Wooley and Joyce Walker, Goliath & BeBe's World, Inc. was registered as a 501(c)(3) tax exempt non-profit organization. Collectively, everyone associated with this organization, i.e., board members, foster parents, pet transporters and adoption screeners, offer their
time, energy, love and money selflessly to the mission and purpose of G&B.
Over the last nine years, Goliath & BeBe's World has placed thousands of animals into good homes. Pet Supermarket is generously allowing G&B animals (cats & dogs) to show for adoption at their store located in St. Augustine, in the Winn Dixie Plaza. Pets are shown from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm every Sunday. Our successful adoption rate for the sanctuary is 98 percent, and the remaining 2 percent of the animals have a permanent home at the Sanctuary located in Madison Co. Fl., fulfilling the promise that Nedra made to Goliath and Bebe, to make "their world" a better place.
The Goliath & BeBe's World, Inc. logo was designed to honor these two courageous animals, Goliath & BeBe, as well as all the animals who come into their world.
